In English, we do a lot of grammar and punctuation. Grammar is very important for other classes because we write in other class and some teachers are very strict about everything being correct. Also, outside and inside school you don't want to sound dumb when you don't say the right words or say them at the wrong time. Grammar and punctuation are very helpful because it can show that you actually know what you're talking about and makes you sound smarter. I know many people who don't like English but I think it is very important and I love learning new words and new ways to write.

This year in English we have learned a lot of things. One new thing that I have learned is how to set up an expository writing. One day in class, we read a quote then wrote on four note cards about it. The note cards where titled Define it, Remember is, Connect it and So what? and with these note cards we wrote whatever we wanted that connected to the quote and note card title. For example, on the Remember it card wrote about a time I did something I love. I wrote about something I loved because it related to the quote. Also, I wrote about a past event because it related to the title of the note card.
Before this, I never really knew how to write an expository writing. This will help be able to set up a writing in the future. This will also help me all throughout high school and college. Sometimes they make you write an expository writing on the STAAR test so I will be fully prepared for that. Doing this activity will probably save me from failing a few rimes later on so I'm very grateful that I got to do this. If I were to give my friend a piece of advice that they would keep with them for the rest of their life it would be don't let it get to you. I would choose this because we cant get caught up to much in everything we do. We have to balance everything and if something doesn't workout, try again. Life is much easier when you don't worry about every little thing that you do. Just let everything happen and if you don't like the way it ends up, then try to change it to where you are more comfortable. Try your best in everything you do and if it doesn't workout, just try again. Don't let every failure, small incorrect detail, mistake or anything get in your way of doing other great things.
I prefer sunsets over sunrises. Sunsets have the prettiest cool tones mixed with warm tones. The dark reds, blues and purples make the perfect ombré of colors. Also, night is my favorite time of day. I love staying up late and doing fun things later in the day. Sunsets are the perfect way to start my favorite time of day.
Growing up I would always get to see sunrises and sunsets because my house faces east and west. But I always had the perfect view of the sunset from my room when I was little. My family would also travel a lot when I was younger and still today. We would go on cruises every other year and when the cruise would leave the island, you could watch the beautiful sunset behind the ocean or the island. Since I grew up being mesmerized by sunsets, I love watching sunsets now that I am older. One smile, can start a friendship. One word, can end a fight. One look, can save a relationship. One person, can change your life. The power of just one thing can be very great. One thing can get you far in life or ruin everything. Something may not seem very important but it can change your whole life. One resume can get your career started or it could end it. One college essay good lead to greater things or lead to nothing. Just one thing is very important.
Everyone holds the power to change someones life. Just by complimenting someones outfit can make them more confident and want to branch out more. Something I do a lot is donating things and my time to the community. I donate all my old clothes, toys and anything else I don't use anymore. I help out at my volleyball club and help coach little kids. These small gestures can change the rest of someone else's life. Enjoy. I believe that instinct is no match for reason because reasoning always helps. When Rainsford was being hunted, he thought through every situation and that ended up leading him to win the hunt. Instinct is usually your fight or flight response that your body naturally has. Instinct may be the fast resolution but thinking things through and reasoning if something will help or hurt you is always the right way to go.
In the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" Rainsford uses reason many times. When he is being hunted by General Zaroff, he doesn't just run away or try to fight the general off. He tries to injury the General or mislead the general by using traps and fake tracks. He uses reason to keep himself alive. If he were to just use instinct, the General would have found him a lot sooner. My family loves to travel. every year at christmas we travel south to the Caribbean or similar places. We've been to most of the Caribbean islands, Jamaica,, Costa Rica and much more. we like to get away from the cold and spend at least a week at a warm sunny beach. We also travel for birthdays, Fathers Day and right after school ends. We also go to Vegas a lot. My mom and I spend a relaxing weekend shopping and going to the spa. We go to 5-star restaurant and have glorious dinners. We also travel for volleyball tournaments. Just last year we went to Colorado, San Antonio, Downtown Dallas and Georgia. we go sight seeing and also go to nice dinners.
My mom works for Micheal's and she has to fly to china twice a year. She is gone for a least two weeks at a time and always comes back will new stuff every time. Before my dad retired, he traveled all over the country and Europe. He had worked for a company based in Europe so he would fly over there all the time. Later on, he stayed inside the country and lowered the amount of places he had to travel every year. He worked very hard for a long time so he could retire early and be able to be home with me. Since mt parents travel so much we have lots of miles with air companies and hotel status. This allows us to go on the luxurious trips we take. I think I'm am very strong mentally and physically. i make good grades and always do my work. Although I think I'm stronger physically. I play lots of sports and have no days off.I'm either working out or playing volleyball of some kind. I may not be able to lift hundreds of pounds but for my age I'm pretty far ahead. Staying in shape and keeping my strength is something i focus on all the time.
An example of my strength is workout Wednesday at school. every Wednesday we workout for at least an hour. We do ladders, sprints and much more. even st practice we do more workouts as a punishment after drills. This helps me get stronger and stay in good shape. Everyday I strive to get stronger an always get better. When I was about 10 years old my family gave my dog to my uncle. Sammi was the best dog ever but she always chewed stuff up and a lot of food out of the pantry. So my parents decided it would be best to give her away. I was very upset and begged them not to give her away but they did anyways. I begged them for years to get another dog. I did lots of research about the best type of dog to get. As i was beginning to lose hope i got the biggest surprise. I woke up at 7 am on my birthday to "go look at a house for my brother." In reality we were going to see a new born doberman. Xena was only about a week old at the time and still had her eyes closed. I was overwhelmed with joy and couldn't wait to take her home. Although she still need to get her ears clipped and get all the shots she needed. We had to wait for two months to get her. When I got home one night after a volleyball game I walked in and she was just sitting there in my living room. Ever since then she has been the best and happiest dog I could've asked for. I'm Hailey and this is my blog for my ELA class. I go to FM9 and the first week of school was great. I really like all of my teachers and the new friends I am making. Volleyball is also going well. we won our first game of the school year against Frisco Liberty. Even though I am already getting loads of homework, I am really looking forward to the rest of the year!
